Jacksons Creek and the Nook Summer 22nd of January 2006.
During summer pretty much most of Australia turns yellow brown. I personaly love this place when its green during winter, but unfortuantly it was better to take these photos while I had the time. It has been some time since I took a detailed look at the Nook and the part of Jacksons creek that flows through Sunbury. I am dissapointed. Much much damage has occured to it over the years. Mostly from flooding and such. I would probably say the removable of most of the trees on the hill was to blame. Of course, no body could have predicted the ecological damage such an act would have done in 40-50 years time. It isnt as beatiful as it used to be and there apears to be less shade as well. But none the less, at night it is still a great place to walk and at day swim.
These photos were taken at 4mpxl at 1024x768. Then shrunk to 800x600 with ~92% quality for sizing purposes.

This is the view of the eastern part off the main road through sunbury.

This is the center part from the view.

And the western part.

After walking down the hill I noticed the grass got greener. No doubt as its been raining a lot recently.

The dog. Right after its first little swim. Looks more retarded that usual.

The view from the east end of the main section.

Just a bit further up a shot of the main "Nook" part. Years ago there used to be a lot more trees bordering the Nook shores but as you can see they are long gone.

My sister and the dog walking up the hill of the western side.

The view of the main part from where my sister and the dog were standing.

A shot further up the hill as we contiued to walk along.

A shot from the north western side of the main section.

The river goes further up north and further up before the main section of water is this little damn looking structure. Over the years this little section has changed a lot as people move rocks around and the banks change and such.

The dog.

If you continue to follow the creek it bends towards the west and then theres an actual bridge for people to cross over just in case they dont like the the spot above.

The creek continues up all the way through the valley. Past the college and into the farm lands.

My sister and the dog again. Up at the top there is the begining of the Goonawarra estate. Ill be honest, it sucks.

After the bridge the path bends back towards the east. To the east theres also the remains of a sub chanel of the jacksons creek that has since dried up and turned into little lagoons. We didnt follow this path as sharp turn right takes you to a dirt path across.

After existing the dirt path you can see the other path continueing up the hill.

Following the path right in front of us we went back to the main section of water on the other side. You can clearly see evidence that flooding has influence this area.

This is just before the little concrete dam from the other side. There is ALWAYS hundreds of tiny little fish here.

Just a bit further north from the above shot.

Just infront of the little dam again. This is the favorite spot for dogs to muck around in. And any one for that matter. its shallow, cool and always has running water.

A view back up from the little dam.

And right after the dam more damage can be seen.

We crossed the dam and sat down. The dog was wet but is already drying up. Mainly because its almost 40ºC

walking back to the car along the side of the nook instead of the hill. It may lack a lot of the shade that used to be there but its still a good place to swim and such.

Last time I was here I had lunch with Devina and Rachel.. At least one and a half years ago.

Now this is on the OTHER side of the main road that runs through sunbury. This is the southern part of the Jacksons creek in Sunbury.

Walking further down you can see the new bridge.

If I followed this path up it would take me back to the nook section.

And theres the old bridge wich is just west of the new one. (I am under the new one)

So little water runs into the nook and so little water runs out.

Just at the base of the old bridge.

The dog went for another swim.

I climbed up to the top of the south end of the old bridge. At times this entire area is filled with water.

Once again, at times the water will full up to the top of those rocks.

On the other side of the pillar holding up the old bridge. I used to always see trout and red fin here. More so during the hotter days. Eventually the trout dissapeared. Seems the Red Fin also have gone.

And theres the dog sitting in the middle of that sand collected in the middle.

Heres where the water flows in from this side of the pillar. Kinda strange how how all these grown trees have been pushed over.

Further up from above.

The dog and my sister gettin gout of the water.

Me sitting down fighting the wind.

Fighting the wind again. I had to turn my head because my glases were slipping off.

I hate the wind. More so when its hot.

My legs. My socks are wet.

The top of the old bridge.

South Eastern Sunbury and one of the vinyards.

Turn around and you can see part of the Goonawarra vinyard and stuff at the base of the hill.

And theres my car.

And then we drove up to the edge of Goonawarra and Rolling Meadows on top of the hill looking over the valey. If you follow this path it goes all the way up behind my place.

walking up to the edge of the valey you can see the college and the north easten part of Sunbury.

The valley continues far north for a very long time. The thick green collection of trees is the Jacksons Creek.

Facing away from the north is the rest of sunbury. Or some of it. You cant seem most of it as its all hilly.

People who bought land at the edge of Rolling Meadows must have gotten the greatest laugh when they realised they were sitting on the edge of the valley. Last time I walked past it my glasses flew off and I had to spend 10 minutes finding them.

My car, my sister and dog.
